Day 1140 Dalias

A perfect bouquet of dahlias brightens my kitchen and makes me smile every time I walk into the room. Maria Elaina brought me this beautiful bouquet when she came over for a night of Mahjong… I really need to start planning another night!

Women friends are so incredibly thoughtful. Sorry guys, but we always bring each other little gifts, tokens of friendship, and even souvenirs from vacations. I don’t recall Tim ever bringing a gift for a friend—or receiving one. It’s just not a “guy thing” (but honestly, it should be).

Dahlias are not only a spectacular flower, but they also hold a special place in my heart. They were my wedding flowers. I hadn’t planned any flowers for my big day, but my friend Jen and her husband took it upon themselves to plant, grow, cut, and arrange spectacular centerpieces and bouquets of dahlias, giving me the most beautiful wedding flowers I had ever seen in my life.

Maria Elaina had gone to a farm where you can cut your own flowers and hand-picked this bouquet just for me. So not only did we have a wonderful time playing Mahjong, but I’ve been enjoying the bouquet all week. I may have to visit that farm myself and cut a bouquet this week—maybe even create one for a friend, since that’s how we gals roll.

Moments like these remind me how powerful small gestures of friendship can be. A simple bouquet can brighten a room, a week and fill us with happiness.
