Day 1142 So long Summertime

So Long, Summertime...

As we roll into October, there's no denying the fall season has arrived. It's time to welcome pumpkins, corn mazes, leaf peeping, and all the little joys that make autumn in New England such a wonderful place to be. With the tourists and summer folks gone, locals once again have our beaches to ourselves...not realizing how stunning Rhode Island is in October... shhh, let's keep that our little secret.

I'm ready to put up my fall decor, visit a local farm, and pull out all my flannel and corduroy clothes. That said, with a trip to Florida just around the corner, I will get to hold on to a few summer outfits a little longer. Packing for Palm Beach is always a challenge—"Palm Beach chic" is a real thing, and I have to say, it’s fabulous. When I visit Dawn, there's always a daytime outfit and then a big wardrobe change for dinner, so packing light is not exactly an option. With just one carry-on, I’d better be strategic!

Before I head south, I have something even more exciting: my son is coming home for a visit—yay! I had suggested flying to Virginia, but with two days' notice, he decided to come here instead. It's his birthday weekend, and he's turning 39... how is that even possible? How do our kids go from toddlers to middle-aged adults faster than a summer breeze?

Fall always seems to bring a mix of nostalgia and new beginnings. Between birthdays, travel plans, and changing leaves, there's a lot to look forward to—and a lot to be grateful for. Here's to crisp air, cozy nights, family visits and making the most of this golden season.

"Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall."
— F. Scott Fitzgerald
