Day 1159 Bestie
After a busy morning of packing, tending to the coop, dealing with last-minute household nonsense, figuring out what on earth I’d wear on the plane, and packing for dinner, I was finally off to the airport.
The flight to Florida is fairly quick, although this trip I flew Breeze Airways, which included a layover in South Carolina. Still, it wasn’t bad at all. I opted for comfy jeans and a T-shirt for travel, packing my dinner dress and doing a quick outfit change in the airport bathroom once I landed in sunny Florida.
As expected, Dawn arrived in a fancy new Rolls-Royce—this time an SUV. If you’ve ever wondered whether they’re worth all that money, the answer is yes. It’s like riding on a cloud, and inside, the ceiling mimics a starry sky, complete with twinkling lights and the occasional shooting star. It’s truly spectacular.
We headed straight to Henry’s in Palm Beach and were seated at a fantastic round table (I love a round table). We ordered as if we hadn’t eaten in ages—although in my case, that was actually true. I had to laugh at the menu: here we were in ritzy Palm Beach, and they were serving pigs in a blanket, onion rings, and other “common folk” food. Of course, the Palm Beach price tag for pigs in a blanket was far more than the dish probably warranted.
The restaurant was dripping with wealth—Palm Beach rich is a whole different level. Wrists adorned with Van Cleef & Hermès accessories everywhere, and women casually wearing jewelry worth more than my house. After indulging in delicious appetizers, martinis, salads, a perfectly cooked filet mignon, dessert, and cappuccinos, we headed home—stuffed and thrilled the weekend had officially begun.
It’s Dawn’s 60th birthday weekend, so it’s going to be a busy one. She also has friends visiting from Long Island, Richie’s friend and his girlfriend, who’s super nice. We’ve overlapped on trips before, so we’ve become friends through Dawn. The three of us ladies chatted the night away while the guys had their own sidebar conversations. Dawn’s turning 60...trying to catch up with me! I’m a few months older. Let’s just say I’m older and wiser—right?
Once home, I brought my small suitcase to my bedroom, feeling instantly happy in my home away from home. It may be a different world here, but somehow, I manage.
Here’s to a weekend of laughter, celebration, and a little Palm Beach sparkle....and priceless time with my bestie. ✨
