Day 1185 Life

A nice, clean table deserves fresh-cut flowers, and I'm always up for buying myself a small bouquet. The pretty Thanksgiving card is from Dawn, just about the only person I know who sends cards for every holiday. Imagine sending a card for every holiday! The rest of us can barely get our Christmas cards out in a timely manner.

Well, back to that clean table. It’s a tough surface to keep spotless.... mail, notes, and general nonsense always seem to find their way there. Maybe I should use that bouquet as a deterrent?

The other space I can’t seem to keep clean is the basement. It’s become a catch-all for items neither Tim nor I want to deal with at any given moment. Everything ends up getting tossed into that tiny basement room until it looks like something out of a hoarders’ special.

Coming home to find the furnace not working definitely bumped “clean the basement” to the top of my to-do list. The poor service guy would probably have a stroke if I ever called him in to work down there. I had actually planned to tackle it last weekend but got sidetracked by pedicures, shopping, and lunch dates. If I could turn back time, well, I’m not saying I’d do anything differently, just saying!

So today I called out of work and will be putting in a full day right here at home, cleaning and waiting for the repair service. Thankfully, our pellet stove is keeping us warm, or this would have been a real nightmare.

Oh, the joys of homeownership. Life has a funny way of derailing even the best-laid plans. But maybe that’s the beauty of its charm,  a little chaos keeps things interesting, and at the end of the day, a clean table, fresh flowers, and a warm house feel like victory enough.

“Life is what happens to us while we are making other plans.” — Allen Saunders
