Day 1190 Game Day
Games, games, and more games… how can it be that there are still games out there I haven’t bought? Sure, we all have our favorites, but if you're anything like me, you have a shelf—or two or three—filled with every game under the sun. My family loves to play board games, so I never want to be without a fun new option to entertain the gang. The classics like Monopoly, Yahtzee, or Parcheesi are always hits, but we're always game to try something new… (these corny puns really need to stop).
My kids all still love to play, although my daughter isn’t at all competitive like the rest of us. She usually bows out while the rest of us play cutthroat, no matter how silly the game is. I’ve gone through all my games and gotten rid of dozens, yet my shelves are still overflowing with ones I just can’t seem to part with, imagining all the fun that might be had! I suppose I could use the space for something more practical, but where’s the fun in that?
My grandkids know that when they come to Grammy’s house for dinner, there will be a game before we all leave the table. They have their favorites, too, which they eagerly request. Each Christmas, I search for new games for everyone, and after all these years, it isn’t easy! I've already found the perfect one for Tim, who isn’t really a fan of board games but is so darn entertaining when he plays that we all insist he join in. No matter how old my kids get, they can always count on a new game for the holidays. Gathering family around a table to play is truly one of my favorite things in life.
In a world that moves faster every year, these simple moments, laughing, competing, and connecting, are more precious than ever. So as long as there are new games to discover and memories to make, my shelves will stay full.
As George Bernard Shaw once said, “We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” So looks like I'll stay young for years to come!
