Day 2118 Sighting
Winter wonderland or deep freeze? I suppose beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. I, for one, love the snow and was thrilled to wake up to it, but I do wish it didn’t have to be quite so darn cold. Our old house can hardly maintain a decent temperature, so Tim and I chose to dine in front of the pellet stove...we'll call it romantic! He reminds me daily that winters are meant for warm climates once you reach a certain age, not sure what that age is yet? He’s determined to spend winters somewhere warm once we both retire, with pie-in-the-sky dreams of tropical islands, beach bars, and lazy days by the sea.
I could certainly do with some warmth during February or March, but for now, I’m embracing the snow—and even the cold (or at least trying to), bundling up and wearing my wool. I’m also still trying to figure out how the weekend goes by so quickly. What the heck?! I barely had time to accomplish a fraction of my to-do list, and suddenly it was Monday again.
Big news on the cat home front: Tim had a sighting of her in our dining room! It was in the middle of the night when he came downstairs, she must not have heard his quiet steps until he was already in the room. She darted past him so fast that he wasn’t sure whether a squirrel had gotten inside or if it was Gypsy. I’m thrilled she’s started to explore, bravely venturing out while we sleep. Tim assured me I’ll never sneak up on her, my heavy steps wouldn’t sneak up on anyone! I’m fairly certain she’s exploring the house with the intention of finding a way out; she’s still not so sure about Tim and me.
Bridie, Greg, and the boys are visiting this coming weekend, and the kids will no doubt keep the cat safely tucked away in her hiding spot for a bit longer. Until then, we’ll keep settling into winter life, snow, pellet stove dinners, and all...hoping warmth, trust, and maybe a little sunshine are just around the corner.
