Day 2134 Food

Food, glorious food, from morning frittata to evening zuppa toscana, the kitchen never seemed to close. I was told I could start a food blog, but quickly replied that I’d have to name it Slightly Overworked Rachel. Although, truth be told, I really do enjoy cooking and baking...I just don’t always have the time for it.

Other things I don’t seem to have time for include housework; I suppose I’m saving that for retirement. I did, however, tackle my bookshelf, sorting through and bagging up stacks of books to donate. It’s kind of odd that I have a bookshelf at all, since I hate to read, yet somehow love collecting books, especially great children’s books. How can anyone get rid of Dr. Seuss, I Spy, or favorite childhood reads?

I have a few books from my dad, and when I pulled one out to flip through the pages, an old photo of me fell out, apparently that made a good bookmark. So the last day of 2025 closed right here at home, surrounded by family, aka, the perfect place to be.

We played more games (shocking, I know), continued to eat, and will all be tipping the scale as we roll into 2026, but without complaints. There were no resolutions, and we didn’t even stay up until midnight, but we all agreed we’re anxious and excited to see how 2026 unfolds.

Soon enough, the house will be quiet again, the cat will be delighted to see everyone leave. Tim and I will settle back into our routine, and I’ll struggle to find time to cook dinner, but for one more day, you’ll find me in the kitchen, Slightly Overworked Rachel, whipping up another meal…or two.
