Day 2137 Packing up
Packing up and clearing out…
Christmas 2025 is slowly becoming a memory, but a sweet one at that! Tim always suggests I wait until Little Christmas to take everything down, but since that falls on a weekday, a girl’s gotta do what she can when she can. So, the holiday décor comes down the weekend before.
It’s amazing how much stuff comes out for the holidays, and how bare the house looks once it’s all put away. I do have one little three-foot tree I’ve decided to keep up, possibly all year long, and the candle lights in the windows typically stay until March, when it’s not so dark so early. Other than that, I’ve scoured the house for Santa-themed items to pack away until next year.
Erica came over and happily helped me strip the tree of lights and pack up whatever we could find. Careful visiting me when I’ve got a project in mind, you’ll quickly be recruited as a helper. After a while, we both quit and sat down to revisit our puzzle. It will be my first and last puzzle of 2026. I’ve learned it’s just not my thing, although somehow the idea of it always seems fun?!
I’m happy to report I haven’t cooked since my company left, dinner out one night and takeout Chinese the next, my kitchen has remained closed. Tim and I ate by the fire, munching on Chinese food and agreeing it was the best idea. It’s been too darn cold to do much of anything, so an early bedtime on a Saturday night felt perfectly acceptable.
My video bird feeder has once again been moved into the chicken coop. Let’s face it, chicken watching is every bit as fun as wild bird watching! When the feeder was in the yard, those darn squirrels invaded it and weren’t even deterred by the alarm. At least placing it inside the coop keeps it safe from them. We’ll work on a permanent spot, but if I can’t find somewhere squirrel-proof, it may just remain a chicken cam.
One more weekend day ahead, and my mind is full of a list of to-dos. For now, I’m enjoying the quiet, the slower pace, and the feeling of a fresh start as the house settles back into its winter rhythm. Packing up holiday cheer, turning the page onto 2026 and stepping into adventures that await. But first...that darn to-do list.....maybe I'll add to my list and start decorating for Valentines day, too soon?
