Day 2139 Free Time

Fresh flowers in a clean room… it doesn’t get much better than that. I went out of my way to pick up a bouquet (or two) as a reward for all my Sunday cleaning. Getting back to reality, Monday-style, doesn’t leave much time for household projects, so I’m glad I managed to finish a few rooms before the week set in.

I remember as a child we lived next door to an elderly couple....probably in their forties or fifties to my five-year-old self. The old man would leave each morning to head off to work, while his wife cleaned the house, set the table for dinner, and had everything done before 9 a.m. Imagine that!? Of course, she drank all afternoon and was sloshed by the time he came home, but at least the house was in order before she hit the bottle.

I guess the moral of that little story is time certainly isn't free...maybe too much time isn’t always a good thing, although I’d love to see how I’d handle such a dilemma. I imagine I’d go golfing with friends, take long hikes daily, bake scrumptious treats, work out to counter all the treats, tackle crafty projects, host tea parties with pretty little sandwiches and treats, thrift shop whenever I pleased, and tend to my chickens… heck, maybe I’d even get a goat!

It’s probably a good thing my free time is limited… but what an old gal I’ll be! No matter how much time I have, I doubt I’ll ever be a good gardener, yard work just isn’t my thing. I can't see myself lounging around reading books or sprawled on the couch, though I might sneak in a lazy day on the deck now and again when the sun is out...somehow lounging in the sunshine doesn't seem lazy.

Until then, I’ll continue waking up at the crack of dawn, sneaking in my free time each morning, pretending I’ve got all the time in the world, and buying myself flowers whenever I see fit. After all, a little beauty goes a long way in making everyday feel special and fresh flowers remind me spring will be here again...just like the weekend.
