Day 2164 Cats

Waking up to freezing temperatures, reading 0 degrees, then seeing my Timehop photos from a trip to Key West makes me wonder why Tim and I didn’t plan a getaway for the month of February.
Ten years ago, we visited Key West, soaked in the sunshine, admired spectacular sunsets, and took time to visit the cats at the Hemingway House. There are roughly sixty cats living there, and while the house itself is now a museum, the cats are truly the main attraction. They roam the house and grounds freely, interacting with visitors and happily soaking up the attention. What a wonderful legacy to leave behind, sure, Hemingway is known for being a great writer, but anyone who visits his home in Key West will inevitably remember him most for those beautiful six-toed cats.
I can’t believe it’s been ten years since Tim and I visited Key West. We loved it there and vowed to visit more often, and in the blink of an eye, ten years have passed. That’s how life goes, I suppose. We also vowed to return to Cape Cod after a fantastic long weekend, and that had to be fifteen years ago now. I guess that’s why older folks start to scramble, we realize we’d better book that trip or plan that adventure, or we’ll be wondering a decade from now why we didn’t.
The bitter cold makes it hard to do anything except try to stay warm. The best place to be is in front of the fire or tucked into bed. We have a heated mattress pad that I turn on before climbing under the sheets, and I’m not joking when I say it’s a little slice of heaven. So don’t mind me if I’m ready for bed by 7 p.m.—warm and toasty, comfy and cozy.
I may have to bring my laptop to bed, check on flights to warmer climates, and see if Tim and I can carve out a weekend getaway soon. After all, memories don’t make themselves...and I’d rather be planning the next adventure than wishing I had. Prioritizing adventures and sunshine is always a good idea... as is having a cat...or two!
