Day 2183 Beauty

If you don’t love cats, now would be a good time to stop reading… because this little beauty is about to be the star of my show!

Little by little, she’s coming out, exploring her new world and trusting Tim and me more and more… finally! Even my naysayer, Timothy, had to concede that it’s going to work out with her, and he laughed when he added that he’s known it all along. I think he’s clearly thrilled he was wrong. I can already see that darn cat bonding with him while I continue to do all the heavy lifting… but I’m happy to see her relaxed and content, even if she chooses Tim as her person.

Tim says I’m too busy, nonstop, always moving, a bit unpredictable, while he’s perfectly content sitting quietly in a chair, hardly moving at all. Finally, a skill of his that has proven necessary! We sat on the floor together, petting our cat and marveling at her newfound desire for attention. It’s been a long time coming, and we’re savoring every bit of the payoff.

She still has her basement hiding spot, and my guess is she’ll retreat there whenever she feels unsure about the goings-on in the house. But I’ve moved her food out to the family room, and hopefully it will make its way upstairs to the kitchen before long. Tim and I are looking forward to the weekend, when we can spend an entire day or two bonding with our girl, showing her just how happy we are to have her here and how much she completes our home.

I’m not sure she’ll be out and about when we have company, but time will tell. I may have to work on slowing down, or she may simply have to get used to my ways. Either way, we’re learning each other, step by step.

Life is always better with a cat...and gaining the quiet trust of a once-shy little soul is the sweetest reward of all.
