Day 2185 Trust

TGIF… finally some time off to spend with our basement cat! She’s coming out more and more, eager to have her head rubbed. Although she’s still a bit skeptical of her new surroundings and any sudden movements, she’s warming up to us and settling in. She even played with one of the toys I bought for her months ago, and rolled around in front of Tim as if to say, time to play!
She’s curious, has the softest fur, and is always watchful. Still shy, but each day I’m sure we’ll see her grow more comfortable here. It’s been such a long road, so both Tim and I deserved our quiet night at home, sitting on the floor watching her as if she were the most amazing creature we’ve ever seen, marveling at her every movement. Okay, we might officially be old people!
I can already tell she’s taken to Tim. With his quiet nature and slow movements, he’s a predictable human, while I’m still a bit too chaotic for her. So every time she walks over to me for some love, I’m thrilled… and a little surprised.
She’s not coming upstairs into the kitchen while we’re around just yet, so Tim and I are spending time in the basement family room so she can watch us from a safe distance, coming over for attention when she feels like it, on her terms. I suspect she’ll be on Tim’s lap within a week… mine might take a bit longer!
Earning the trust of a scared, shy cat can’t be rushed, but when she finally chooses us completely, our efforts will be well worth the wait. She's had such a long road, tough life of a street cat and caged for longer than any animal should be, she's earned her happy ending, and we're thrilled to welcome her to our family.
“There are few things in life more heartwarming than to be welcomed by a cat.” ~ Tay Hohoff
