Crazy Cat Lady

Somehow, while I’ve been busy living my life, without even realizing it, I’ve become a crazy cat lady! One who takes off her shoes and tiptoes downstairs quietly so as not to scare the cat… one who uses her lunch break to hunt for special treats or toys… and one who sits perfectly still, hoping the cat will deem her worthy of attention. Oh boy!
A month ago, Tim wouldn’t have believed this shy, hidden cat would be out, enjoying him gently stroking her head, trusting him almost enough to jump on his lap… we’re close. Our nights are now filled with cat-watching, we still haven’t turned on the television since it frightens her.
So, we may have to spend the spring getting a grip on our lives, daring to clean the basement family room even at the risk of upsetting our fur queen. As for me, cleaning wasn’t in the cards. Still feeling a bit off, I opted for an early bedtime while Tim went out on the town, each of us happy with our choices.
He may need to start resting up soon, though. Apparently, that crazy bet at work is still on… albeit slightly altered. Now he only has to run one mile, but in 11 minutes or less. He’s confident he can do it, remembering his forty-year-old running skills. He’ll be completing this challenge in his work gym, with coworkers watching, so if it’s in him at all, pride alone might carry him through.
I did request a photo of him mid-challenge, although my mental image is already pretty delightful. He’s got another week before the big event, so, a week to start training… sounds reasonable, right? If I were him, I’d be checking my self-awareness and doing a practice run to test my time, but then again, I wouldn’t be Tim.
Maybe that’s the theme of this season: a house quietly rearranging itself around a timid cat, a man chasing an old version of himself on a treadmill, and me somewhere in the middle, watching it all unfold with a smile. Life has a funny way of sneaking up on you like that… soft, quiet, and just the right mix of absurd to make it perfect.
