Baby you can drive my car

I bet when the Drive My Car by The Beatles was written, they never imagined a self-driving vehicle! What?! When my friend pulled up a few weeks ago in a Tesla Cyber truck, I asked if she was secretly James Bond… apparently the car is her husband’s, so he must be.

So yesterday, when she and another friend arrived to join me at the beach club, I couldn’t jump into this futuristic car fast enough, eager for a ride. She set our destination, then sat back and let the car drive us there… are you kidding me?! I suppose I knew this technology existed, but experiencing it firsthand brings a whole new appreciation for the strides being made. Apparently the car also floats, so no worries if you end up in water. I now need to know all it's tricks! If you drive by one of these cars and think they are ugly...well, jokes on you! Inside the driver is sitting back, relaxing, not caring one bit what you think.

I will probably buy one more car in my lifetime, and I’m now holding out for a self-driving one. How much easier would that make my “old lady” life? Night driving, no problem for a computer! I’m not sure I’d need a bulletproof Cybertruck in my old age...  hopefully Tesla has (or will have) a smaller version by the time I’m ready to upgrade. Seriously, as a childhood fan of The Jetsons, I’ve been waiting for this kind of technology for decades!!

Okay… enough about my car envy, let’s talk Mahjong. My daughter and a couple of my EG friends joined me for an afternoon of gaming. It was my first time playing for money, so fun! We each had a baggie full of quarters, so it wasn’t going to be a big win or loss, but the small exchange of coins made each win more exciting. I believe we all won a few times, just transferring the same quarters around the table, but we're all ready for another round, and now all need cute change purses!

It was great fun to play with a table of good players, fast games, no teaching, enough bandwidth to chat while playing and lots of laughs.  There was also a party going on at the beach club while we played… I won’t get too into that since it made my blood boil. Although I really like who the party was for and I’m happy for the partygoers....I painfully remember the same exact thing being shot down in the past. I watched the setup, exactly what we tried to do years ago for Tim’s mom’s 90th and were told we couldn’t....or that we could, but only if we jumped through countless hoops. I’m hoping the rules have changed… not just shifted for certain individuals. We’ll see. It certainly makes me want to throw a party, (or at least see if the same rules would apply) take over half the club, and whoop it up, since apparently that’s allowed now....or is it? Time will tell...

In the end, though, the day was about good friends, super cool cars,  laughs, and a handful of quarters changing hands. And really, that’s more than enough to make any afternoon feel like a win. I really need to plan a Mahjong party.... wouldn't that be fun!?
