Enough?

Shopping for chicken feed isn’t easy this time of year. Walking past rows of tiny, chirping chicks, I can’t help but want to bring a few home. Last year I held strong and resisted the fluffy little temptations… but I’m not sure how long my willpower will hold out this time. It is important to replenish the flock every couple of years… isn’t it?

My plan was to skip adding more chicks this year, fingers crossed, but it raises the question: when is enough enough? That question seems to echo through just about every part of my life. After all, I’m a self-admitted woman of excess. But I love it all, too many pocketbooks, too many dresses, too much jewelry, rocks and crystals, pictures covering every inch of wall space, indoor plants… and now, with my love for mahjong, even more delightful things to collect.

Of course, there’s the basic game set, table pads, carry bags, and tile bags, but now that I’m playing for quarters, I’ve added the cutest little change purses. And somehow, social media always seems to know exactly how to tempt me with the coolest game sets. Tim doesn’t realize it yet, but along with that backhoe he got me, there’s also a beautiful new beach-themed mahjong set in my future… thanks, Tim! I love the idea of having a dedicated set to take to the beach club,  I’ll be the coolest cat there.

So I suppose “enough” is subjective. Maybe it’s less about drawing a hard line and more about embracing the joy in the things that bring happiness. New tiles may be on their way, but at least I'm not tending to baby chicks...right!?
