Outdoor dining

Our new patio dining table just arrived, and it also happens to be the perfect size for Mahjong. Coincidence? I think not.

Tim and I looked at dozens of tables before finally settling on this one, and now that it’s in place, we both love it even more. Choosing the chairs, however, wasn’t nearly as easy. I finally went ahead and ordered six from Job Lot after finding an unbelievably good crazy deal.

My son-in-law picked them up for me yesterday, and apparently “some assembly required” was quite the understatement. Thank goodness Tim has the patience and skills for that sort of thing. I have absolutely no patience for putting furniture together and would much rather come home to the finished product whenever possible. Hey, we all have our own unique skill sets. Poor Tim's to-do list seems to be growing.

I’m so excited to see the chairs paired with the table, and I’m already looking forward to outdoor dining, Mahjong games, and spending as much time outside as possible. One thing is for sure: after the long winter months, spring and summer feel even sweeter.

Although these days, so many places crank up the air conditioning that you still end up needing a sweater indoors. Personally, I’d much rather have the windows open and enjoy fresh air, even warm summer air, than sit in sterile AC all day. I’ll make an exception during the hottest part of summer and turn on the bedroom AC so I can sleep, but otherwise, fresh air all the way for this gal.

Meanwhile, Tim has been hard at work on our patio project. A professional handled the digging, but since then he’s been spreading rock, leveling sand, tamping everything down, and prepping to lay bricks. At this rate, it looks like the patio may actually be finished by the Fourth of July, maybe even sooner.

Once it’s complete, we’ll move our older, larger dining set out there along with the old chairs, and we’ll officially be party-ready for summer with multiple outdoor dining options.

Honestly, if I could spend every day barefoot in the sunshine, I’d be one happy gal. Until life allows that full-time reality, I’ll happily settle for outdoor dinners, patio games, and soaking up every bit of spring summer breeze I can.... even if shoes are still occasionally required.

“Live in the sunshine, swim in the sea, drink the wild air.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
