Weekend Fun

Back to the Ocean Mist for a sunny Sunday afternoon with one of my favorite bands playing! Even my friend Judy made the trip down for her very first visit to the Mist, and I have a feeling it won't be her last.

It feels as though this was the longest weekend I've had in ages, and Sunday was packed from start to finish. I was up early, as usual, and headed outside to tackle a few projects before the day got away from me. First on the list was cleaning up the remaining bricks from the patio project. I stacked every unused brick neatly, cleared away the leftover debris, and finally restored some order to the area.

While I was at it, I divided a giant plant that had spent the winter indoors. One oversized leafy filler became three separate planters, each filled with healthy green stems ready for summer. By 7 a.m. I was covered in dirt and sweat, but I had already accomplished enough for a full day.

After a quick cleanup, it was time to head to my daughter's open house for her new Mahjong studio inside her salon. Three of my friends met at my house, and we all headed over together. We quickly claimed a table and settled in for game after game of Mahjong. The first game ended with no winner, but then my luck kicked in, I won the next three games in a row! It was definitely my day.

As soon as the open house wrapped up, everyone scattered off to their own plans. I still had lots to do at home, but no interest in getting myself dirty again so opted for a few lazy chores...followed by a nap!

And honestly, it was perfect.

Curled up on my deck, surrounded by fresh air and birdsong, I drifted off and enjoyed one of the most peaceful naps I've had in a long time. The gentle breeze, the warmth of the sun, and the quiet stillness felt like a reward for a busy weekend.... I'm usually not a napper but this one may have turned me into one!

After my little recharge, I got myself together and headed out with Tim for an afternoon of music at the Ocean Mist. Once again, the air along the water was cool, but it didn't take long for us to warm up once the band started playing. Before I knew it, we had been dancing for hours. I'm honestly a little surprised my body hung in there after all the brick-laying, gardening, Mahjong, and everything else I'd packed into the weekend. At some point I keep expecting my legs to file a formal complaint and refuse to cooperate!

Thankfully, they held out, and we danced the afternoon away to great music and good company. Judy had a wonderful time, and I'm fairly certain she'll be planning another trip down my way before long....a big 30 minute drive for her, which for a Rhode Islander is a considerable journey!

By the time I finally made it home, I felt as though I had squeezed every last drop of fun out of the weekend. Between projects, friends, family, Comedy, Mahjong, music, dancing, and even a peaceful nap in the sunshine, I'm not sure I could have fit one more thing into those two days if I tried.

Some weekends simply leave you tired. Others leave you full. This one somehow managed to do both.
