Munching

Happy Hens Munching...
With my family gathered together, and most of them not fans of having their photos splashed across social media, a picture of my happy hens happily munching away is about as good as it's going to get!
Another wonderful day was spent with the family, hanging out by my daughter's pool. Surprisingly, most of us had little interest in actually diving in, but that didn't matter one bit. Some swam, the rest of us relaxed in the shade, chatted, ate, and simply enjoyed being together telling stories.
Lunch on the deck was the perfect summer spread, sandwiches, chips, and, of course, birthday donuts for my mom as we celebrated her 87th birthday. Eighty-seven! Imagine living that long and still embracing life with such enthusiasm. As we sat around the table enjoying each other's company, we couldn't help but marvel at the genetic lottery our family seems to have won. My mom is still rocking all her original parts, takes no daily medications, and is as sharp as a tack. Here's hoping the rest of us inherited those same good genes!
After a quick trip home to change clothes, everyone scattered off to their own evening plans, leaving Tim and me to continue the birthday celebration by taking Mom out to dinner.
When it comes to someone who already has everything, finding a meaningful birthday gift can be a challenge. Instead of another "thing," we decided to give her an experience, a trip to Williamsburg this fall.
I find it hard to believe she's never been there. This is a woman who's traveled all over the world, Egypt, Peru, countless European countries, and so many incredible destinations in between, yet she'd never visited Colonial Williamsburg. Funny how that happens. We often dream about exploring faraway places while overlooking the history that's waiting right in our own backyard.
I have a feeling she's going to love strolling the brick streets, touring the historic homes, watching the costumed interpreters bring history to life, and soaking in a little slice of early America. At 87, she's still making plans, still looking forward to new adventures, and still proving that life doesn't stop just because the birthdays keep adding up.
Happy Birthday, Mom. May we all be so fortunate.
